I was born on cold day in December and my mother was raced to the hospital in a small pickup truck during a heavy snow. The nurse at the hospital did not like my first name “Ian” after I was born, so she filled it in as “Dan” initially. My birth certificate was later amended and I remained Ian to this day. I grew up as a middle class kid, but moving often as a child so I learned to make friends fast, yet I never considered anything “forever” since each year I was forced to pull up stakes. I guess you could say it taught me to love the kind of women who love me intensely, briefly, and then just kind of go away.

Well, not really. But I love to use that line.

After moving often I grew up for years in Redding, California and attended both a private school for many years and a public high school before moving again after my sophomore year. After that I moved to Merced, California where I graduated high school. Most of my close friends these days, which I remain in contact with are form that area.

I was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp 6 years after enlisting at 17 years of age. I spent a majority of that time in the reserves while attending the California State University of California Sacramento. I started programming during my first undergraduate degree but did not return to for actual “computer” courses until after graduating and working full time as a programmer analyst.
